Mercury from amalgam dental fillings is a toxic and hazardous product; We recommend the removal of mercury fillings, and replacement with a non-mercury tooth-coloured or white dental filling alternative for a more natural looking smile.

The government believes mercury in fillings is so dangerous to the environment that they have launched a program called "Dentists for Cleaner Water". Every dental practice in Victoria that hasn't installed an amalgam retention system by the 30th of June 2011 will be closed until they upgrade their practice.
